Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 10 until 11 a.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 11 a.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial at Guthrie Cemetery. Ricky Robinson and Dwight Baily will officiate.
John served in the U.S. Navy. He had 60 years of service with United Mine Workers of America. John was a deacon at Carbon Hill First Freewill. He enjoyed farming, gardening, bluegrass music, and traveling to music festivities. He showed quarter horses for over 35 years. John loved his family with all his heart. He was loved and will be missed by so many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Myrtle Anderson Burkett; siblings, H.L., Earl, Ellis, Leon, Opal, Aliene, Mary and Martha.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gerrelene Killingsworth Burkett; children, Mark Burkett (Deanna) and Marcia Burkett; grandchildren, Brittney Burkett (Drew), Cody Hudson and Kayla Hudson; brother, O’Neal Burkett and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
