Hester Guy Able Jr. passed away peacefully on September 25th, just as the rain clouds parted and the afternoon sun warmed his face, surrounded by family. A Jasper native, he loved the community that he called home. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sara Earnest Able, and father, Hester Guy Able Sr.
He is survived by his sweetheart, Beth Payne Able, whom he was married to for 40 years. His children were some of his greatest treasures; Jean Able Bradley (Stephen), Margaret Able Grubic (David), and Hester Guy Able III (Chase Elizabeth). His five grandchildren (Liza, Luke, and Billy Bradley, Eli and Shepherd Grubic) brought Guy abundant joy and laughter. He is also survived by his sister, Lea Able Satcher (Roger) and nephew, Asa.
Guy graduated from Walker High School in 1972. He attended Walker College, then continued his education at The University of Alabama where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Guy studied at Samford University to prepare for his career in pharmacy.
Guy was an avid reader, collector of antiques, and loved learning about God’s green Earth. His time was best spent outside with Beth in their garden. Guy lived a life of daily striving to walk humbly before the Lord and share kindness to all. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through the family he led so well. Well done, good and faithful servant, well done.
Service will be held at Jasper First Methodist Church on September 29, 2024 at 3:00, with visitation beginning at 2:00. Private graveside will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Guy Able III, Stephen Bradley, David Grubic, Sam Walker Murphy, Lawson Murphy, Bobby Wilson, Baker Crow, Jack Granger, Lanny Fievet, and Jim Richardson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walker Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 171 Jasper, AL 35502.
