A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Walker Memory Gardens. Frankie Duncan will officiate.
Charles proudly served his country during WWII, and was a part of the special unit testing the Atomic Bomb called Operation Sandstone that took place in Enewetak in the Marshall Islands in 1948. While on this mission, Charles had the pleasure of meeting and shaking hands with Albert Einstein and was on the ship during testing and detonation of the Atomic Bomb.
After serving his country and returning home, he met the love of his life, Katie Payne, and the two were married for 66 years. During their marriage they had five children, Janice, Ricky, Tony, Phillip, and Jamie Richardson.
Charles became a well-known and respected painting contractor in Walker County, and loved spending time with his wife and children. His hobbies included, fishing and looking for Indian artifacts. Not only did Charles make a lasting impression in the lives of his own children, but also in the lives of other young boys, as he served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. Charles made an impact on many lives and will be forever loved and missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Fay Richardson; son, Timothy James Richardson; grandchild, Gray Lancaster; and sibling, Marie Wade.
He is survived by his children, Janice Cate, Ricky Richardson, Tony Richardson, Phillip Richardson and Jamie Richardson (Brook); grandchildren, Amy Guarino, Heather Donly, Amber Okeefe, Brook Timel, Seth Donly, Aaron Richardson, Jamie Michelle May, Samatha Joe Phillips, Jeremy Richardson, Jennifer Mason, Courtney Richardson, Colton Richardson, Easton Gilliott and Garrett Gilliott; and sibling, Billy Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Richardson, Jamie Richardson, Tony Richardson, David Richardson and Seth Donly.
