Michael John Gorman

Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC due to liver and renal failure.

Michael was born in Belmont, MA on April 19, 1967. He was the son of Hazel and the late John M. Gorman.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years Cinnamon (Holmwood) Gorman and his four children Joshua, Matthew, Patrick and Peyton.

Michael was preceded in death by his son Jacob who taught him the true meaning of love and loss.

He was the eldest of 4 children. He is survived by his sister Heather and his brothers

John and Jason. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Michael grew up in Ledyard, CT. From the age of three was an avid sports fan. He had a deep love and loyalty for his New York Giants, all Boston teams, and The Fighting Irish.

His competitive nature made him a natural for all sports. He excelled in football, having set several Ledyard High School records that still stand today. He was also inducted into the LHS Football Hall of Fame in 2014. His talents attracted the attention of many colleges, but ultimately he made the decision to attend Norwich University. There he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration & Management. He also achieved his goal of becoming a Military Officer. Upon graduation Michael entered the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, when he was deployed to the Middle East. Michael returned to the East Coast and found his piece of paradise on Topsail Island. After his marriage, he settled in Jacksonville and expanded his heart and home with his wife and children. To the delight of his New England family and friends, Mike was prodigiously selected to attend the Military War College in Newport, Rhode Island where he received his Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies Degree. Throughout his service to our country, Mike was a recipient of numerous awards, medals, and accolades. He was awarded the following: Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal(Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal(Saudi Arabia), Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. Michael had a deep devotion and love for the Marine Corps. After serving his country for 20 years, Michael retired as a Major in 2009. He then became The Director of Defense Management Operations aboard Camp Lejeune, where he continued to work until his death. A veteran, Mike is held in high regard by many he was fortunate to serve with. A kind, empathetic, and loyal friend to many. He will long be remembered and missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry, CT on December 16, 2017. Michael will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Semper Fi Michael John!
