William E. Parry, Jr, 83, passed away March 1st, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1958, where he was later inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He continued his football career at West Liberty University. During his collegiate career, he was captain of the football team, served as Vice President of Sigma Beta Chi Fraternity, and was awarded 1st Team All-Conference. Soon after graduation he was drafted by the Wheeling Ironmen of The United Football League. To tribute Bill’s athletic success in his collegiate years, he was inducted into the West Liberty University Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
After graduating in 1963, Bill married his college sweetheart, Shirley Ossi Parry, while also obtaining his master’s degree from West Virginia University. Bill spent 17 years teaching in the Duval County School System. He founded Parry Pools, Inc. in 1973. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Florida Tackle & Gun Club. Most notably, Bill was an avid outdoorsman, with some of his greatest memories spent outdoors with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Shirley, three children, Lori Parry Crabtree (Chip), Billy Parry (Lynne), Kenny Parry (Carol), ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Pat Parry Harper, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Vigil service will be held at San Jose Catholic Church Thursday, March 7th, at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 8th, at San Jose Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
