Vera was born to Christine and Earl Gragg on April 6, 1935 in Lakemont, Georgia, where she lived for one year before moving to Florida. She graduated from high school in White Springs in 1954. She then attended nurses training at Sacred Heart in Pensacola, FL from 1954-1957. During her career, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Hope Haven Children’s Hospital, Duval County Health Department and ultimately retired from the Duval County Jail in 2006, at the age of 71.
Vera was preceded in passing by both her parents, by the father of her children, Claude F. Brown, Sr. in 2012 and by her oldest son, Claude F. Brown, Jr. (C.F.) in 2013.
Vera is survived by 2 brothers; Bruce Gragg (Gloria) of Birmingham, AL and Danny Gragg of Fayetteville, GA, by 3 children; a son, Gregory Brown (Marisol) of Orlando, FL, 2 daughters, Wanda Brown of Jacksonville, FL and Diane Rice (Warren) of Glen St. Mary, FL. She is survived by 7 grandchildren; Nathaniel Brown (Nate) of New York, Alexander Brown (Sarah) of Orlando, FL, JayRyan Doppke, Eryn Doppke Smith (Mitchell) and Christine Brown all of Jacksonville, FL, Glenn Moore of St Augustine, FL and Kory Schweinfurth of Greenville, S.C. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Sophie Hay and Karl Smith, both of Jacksonville, FL and Eden, A.J, Jr and Violet Brown, all of Orlando, FL. Along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends who will miss her tremendously.
