Born 03 November 1939. Thomas peacefully left his earthly home in Jacksonville, FL on a journey to his heavenly home Wednesday afternoon 04 January 2017 with his family by his side.
Thomas is survived by Happy, his loving wife of 36 years, 2 sons: Thomas S McNamara (Amy), Brian McNamara (Kim). Grandchildren: Jason, Erin Zampese (Chris), Morgan, Collin, Caitlin. Great-grandchildren: McKenzie, Broolkyn. Two Sister, One Brother, Five sisters-in-law, Five brothers-in-law. Thomas is predeceased by parents, Thomas and Marie McNamara and aunt and uncle, Ferdinand and Rita Schnell.
Thomas was born in Elizabeth, NJ and grew up in Garwood NJ. Graduated Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School in Clark, NJ and joined the U.S. Navy in 1957. He retired in Key West, FL 1979 as a Chief Petty Officer and moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1980. During his military career, he received five Good Conduct Awards, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal.
Thomas and his wife, Happy traveled to Ireland several times, had several anniversary cruises. Thomas enjoyed fishing, 50’s and traditional Irish music, combing the beach for sharks teeth, spending fun evenings with friends and sitting in his rocker for hours on his porch reading, watching birds/squirrels. As a child, he traveled extensively with his uncle Ferdie & aunt Rita, spent many happy moments with his Gramma Mac watching wrestling on TV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00am at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207 with burial with full military honors to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.
