Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Smith, Jr., passed away at the age of 72 on November 25, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida. He retired after more than 20 years of service in the United States Air Force as a Captain and a Psychologist.
Dr. Smith was raised in Lumber City, Georgia born on April 20th, 1943 to Theodore Roosevelt Smith, Sr. and Nedora Williams Smith. Dr. Smith was married to his beloved wife, Bernice Swiggett Smith for 50 years.
Dr. Smith is survived by his wife, Bernice Swiggett Smith, four sons; Theodore III; Michael; Samuel; Christopher and one daughter Tamela. He is predeceased by two brothers Roosevelt King and John W. Smith, and 2 sisters Irene Burse and Dora Mae Conaway.
Dr. Smith is also survived by his six grandchildren, Jade, Theodore IV, Rachael, Elisabeta, Amber, and Carmi, and was known as “Pa-Pa” and “G-Pa”. He has many nieces and nephews.
He was a very loving son, husband, father, grandfather, health care provider, friend and a gentle man with a big smile, a loving caring heart. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Dr. Smith firm believes in education led him to continually study trying to learn and share his knowledge. Feeling education was important; Dr. Smith successfully completed 5 degrees and his PhD.
He touched many hearts with love, compassion, understanding, kindness and a great spirit. He retired from the United States Air Force with 20 plus years of service, initially as an enlisted man and retired as a Captain and a practicing Psychologist. As an enlisted man his job was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force and earned his way to an officer. He spoke fluent German as well as English and his favorite duty stations were in Germany, where he met his beautiful wife. He believed in hard work and was committed to family, country and community.
There will be a visitation service on December 5, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015 followed by the interment at Riverside Memorial Park. The family invites all who attend to share in fellowship with refreshments immediately following the interment at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home.
