Sylvia June Melville. Born June 14, 1936 in Fernleaf, Kentucky. Beloved mother, sister, and daughter passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Sylvia was mother to Nancy (Melville) Conners. She was preceded in death by husband Thomas Melville, son-in-law James Conners (Nancy), sister-in-law MaryAnn Purdon (Ronald), and parents Mabel and Elwood Purdon. She is survived by brothers Ronald Purdon (Cincinnati), and William Purdon (Dallas), sister-in-law Debbie Purdon (William), and a nephew, nieces, their spouses, and many grand nieces and nephews. Born in northern rural Kentucky, Sylvia was a long term resident of Jacksonville (69 years) and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson H.S. She had a career with and retired from Southern Bell (BellSouth). Sylvia had a passion for sewing, for which she was very accomplished and skilled. Of special note, Sylvia was beloved by many “Moms” and their families who she befriended in the Riverside/Avondale/Ortega neighborhoods and she considered them as her family in the truest sense of personal affection, love and joy. She was a very giving, generous, and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family is hosting a visitation from 12 to 1 on Thursday, December 8, with a graveside burial service immediately following at 1:00, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, (904)-781-9262. This will be followed by a reception and celebration of Sylvia’s life at 2:30 in the ThouArtExhalted (TAE) facility located at 1816 Talbot Avenue.
