Steven Douglas Horne, 51, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida after a valiant fight against cancer. Steve was born on March 7, 1968 in Burbank, California to William Douglas and Margaret Bentley Horne.
Steve was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a full-time missionary for the church in the Argentina Buenos Aires South Mission from June 1987 to June 1989.
He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Spanish in April of 1994. BYU was where he met his beloved wife, Christine Edgley. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Salt Lake City Temple in June of 1993 and spent many happy years together. They would have celebrated their 26th anniversary this June.
Christine and Steve went on to have four children whom he made a priority. Steve took time to take them on many family vacations to various destinations and loved to road trip across the country. He also loved to visit Caribbean islands with his wife, meet new people and spend time with family and friends. Steve had the ability to make friends easily with everyone and was a stranger to no one. Steve also enjoyed serving in his church community. He had and cherished various roles working with the youth, Scouts, and missionaries and served as a High Priest leader from a young age.
Steve was preceded in death by his father’s parents, Marion Seth Horne and Maurine Derrick, and his mother’s parents, Anthony Ivins Bentley and Ella Farnsworth. He is survived by his wife, Christine Horne and their four children: McKayla Christine Robinson and her husband Kyle Russell Robinson (Cedar Hills, UT), Spencer Steven Horne (Camp Pendleton, CA), Haylee Margaret Horne (Provo, UT) and Hunter Richard Horne (St. Augustine, FL). Steve was preparing to welcome his first granddaughter (daughter of McKayla and Kyle Robinson) in June of this year. He is also survived by his parents, William Douglas and Margaret Horne and his eight younger siblings: Lisa Hull (Troy), Mark Horne (Lindsay), Stephanie Horne Thomson (Carlos), Darin Horne (Jennifer), Ryan Horne, Tyler Horne (Heather), Shauna Nixon (Judd), Michelle Russell (Regan).
Steve will always be remembered for his fun personality, love for adventure, and optimism in any circumstance. It served him well right up to the very end. He will be dearly missed.
