Stephen King Bryant

Born on July 29, 1942, and left his porch for the final time July 27, 2019. Dad would be disgruntled that he did not make it to his birthday; he would have felt it especially excentric to have been born and died on the same day. He is survived by his children James and his wife Genia, Gwen and her husband Larry, his four grandchildren Chirs, Matt, and John & Jewel and his beautiful sister Jeanne. Dad also had many other extended family members his sister-in-law Jan, and his brother in law Hayden, too many nieces, nephews, cousins, to name that he loved dearly. Dad also had his Forbes street family, and these folks were so significant to him, and he loved them and their families. JB, Holly, Sara, Nate, Lyle, Danny, Ceci & Megan. Dad loved his house more than anything, so it's only fair to list it among the survivors. His porch will never be the same, nor will Forbes Street; it is the end of an era. If you knew my dad, you probably knew a lot of things that you didn't necessarily need to know. If you only remember one thing about him I hope that its the name of Dan McGirt's horse and that he loved you.

A memorial service will be held in Steve's honor on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 2pm at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.

Steve Bryant was a long-time employee of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Homes. He began with the company when it was still Giddens-Griffith in the 1970s. His office was upstairs over the rafters at Edgewood and he would smoke unfiltered Camel cigarettes all day (back when you could smoke inside). He held many administrative duties yet his area of expertise was in death certificates and burial-transit permits. He was one of the first sub-registrars in the State of Florida. Through his position he made many contacts and friends with the staffs of physician’s offices as well as with the Medical Examiner’s Office. You could throw him a curve ball and it never seemed to faze him. He was always in a good mood. Steve worked hard and played hard. His favorite pastime was sitting on his porch in Riverside watching the world go by.
