Shu Zhen Chen

Shu Zhen Chen was born in FuQin, China on April 17, 1939. She had a poor childhood. She is the oldest of the four siblings. She didn’t get a chance to go to school but learned to read at night from a night school and worked hard during the day to help support the family. She loved her siblings and was like a little mom to her younger sisters.

In 1963, Shu Zhen Chen was married to Hui Yi Lin. Her husband was very poor but a very good man. They had a good and happy marriage life and worked together to gradually build up a family and improve their quality of life.

In June 1985, Shu Zhen and her family migrated from China to Puerto Rico in order to give her daughters better opportunities to pursue new and better lives. So she had to start everything from zero. The first few years after migration were very hard. She worked in her sister-in-law’s store earning minimum wage. But determined to have a better future for her daughters, she and her husband fought against all the odds, assumed all the burdens, and endured all the hardship. With the help of her two older daughters, she managed to send her two younger daughters to earn a bachelor degree and find decent jobs.

In 1998, Shu Zhen moved to Jacksonville, Florida and started to enjoy her well-earned retirement life. She enjoyed doing gardening works and keeping flower beds nice and clean. Unfortunately her health took a big downturn in 2006 after a heart attack. She had a bypass surgery which took much longer than expected. But she fought against all the sickness and recovered from the surgery. However, her memory started to degrade gradually little by little over the years, only remembering her oldest daughter and her family during the later stage of her life. Her primary care physician thinks highly of her, that she is a strong fighter against all the illness for so many years. On November 8, 2020, she passed away.

Shu Zhen was saved and became a Christian after she migrated to Puerto Rico. She had a Buddha family background so it was not easy to change her belief. But by the Lord’s mercy and with the care of the saints from the churches in Puerto Rico, she called in the name of the Lord and was baptized. The Lord really took care of her and her family. Thanks and praise the Lord.

陈淑珍1939 年4 月17 日出生于中国福清市，在四个兄弟姐妹

中排行老大。她的童年生活艰辛，没有上学的机会；但她白天

努力工作以帮助养家糊口，同时晚上积极参加夜校学习，努力

摆脱了文盲的命运。她深爱自己的兄弟姐妹，以至于两个妹妹

都把她看作她们的小妈妈。1963 年，陈树珍嫁给了林晖仪，

他们的婚姻生活美满幸福。丈夫虽然很穷，但却是一个令她满

意的好男人。经过共同努力，生活质量不断改善，家庭发展蒸

蒸日上。1985 年6 月，淑珍和她的家人从中国移民到波多黎

各，以求给女儿们提供更多的发展机会，追求崭新美好的生

活。随后几年，她在大姑姐的商店工作，赚取最低工资。虽然

一切从零开始艰难谋生，但是她和丈夫知难而上，顽强拼搏，

决心为女儿们规划和创造一个美好的未来。在两个大女儿的全

力帮助下，她如愿以偿：两个小女儿进入了大学，获得学士学

位，并最终找到了如意的工作。1998 年，淑珍移居佛罗里达

州杰克逊维尔市，开始尽情地享受自己的退休生活。整天乐于

种植水果蔬菜，整理草地花圃。谁知天不作美，2006 年一次

心脏病发作后，她的健康每况愈下。那次心脏搭桥手术耗费了

漫长的时间，加上其他多种疾病，情况不容乐观。但她展现出

顽强的生命力，从手术中康复过来。只是，从此以后，她的记

忆力开始逐渐下降，一年不如一年；到了晚年，只清楚认得大

女儿，勉强记得几个家人。她的保健医生高度评价她这么多年

来的顽强意志，称她为疾病的斗士。2020 年11 月8 日，她不

幸逝世，终年81 岁。淑珍的灵魂已被主耶稣拯救，因为她移

民到波多黎各后成为了一名基督徒。本来，从佛教的家庭背

景，改变信仰，委实不易；但是，在主的怜悯和波多黎各教会

圣徒的关照下，她终于奉主呼召，接受洗礼。主从此照顾她和

她的家人。感谢主，赞美主！
