It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Ann Smits, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who passed away on November 15, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 78. Sharon was born on March 17,1946, in Queens, New York, and lived a life full of love, warmth, and laughter.
Sharon was the cherished wife of Victor Edward Smits, her partner in life whom she met while working at Grumman in Bethpage, New York. Together, they shared a deep and enduring love that spanned over 57 years. Sharon was a devoted mother to her two sons, Andrew Patrick Smits and Daniel Christopher Smits, and she was an unwavering source of support, guidance, and affection throughout their lives. She is also survived by her sister, Maureen Patricia Blesi, Maureen's children, as well as the children of Victor's sisters, and many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her presence.
Sharon’s career began in the workforce at Grumman. However, her greatest pride and joy came later when she chose to dedicate herself full-time to raising her children. Sharon’s love for her family was immeasurable, and she poured her heart into making a loving home for her boys and supporting her husband in all their endeavors.
A woman of many talents, Sharon had a true gift for crafting, cooking, and baking. She could often be found in the kitchen creating delicious meals or whipping up treats for her family. She also found great enjoyment in her favorite pastime—scratching off lottery tickets—always with a sense of anticipation for a lucky win, and a good laugh at the fun of it all.
Sharon’s warmth, generosity, and sharp sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She had a way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved, and her spirit was a constant source of light in the lives of her family and friends. Whether it was sharing a cup of coffee, making a meal, or offering her comforting words, Sharon's love and devotion to her family and friends were the foundation of everything she did.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Rest in peace, Sharon (mom). Your love and light will always remain with us, we love you.
