Sarah (Sally) Margaret Myers Kampfe, 87, died Saturday, June 25 in Jacksonville, FL. At her bedside were loving friends and family. Born May 3, 1929, to Edgar Hoffman Myers and Sarah Elizabeth Barker Myers in Dorset, OH, Sally was graduated from Moorestown High School in Moorestown, NJ, and attended the University of California, Berkeley, in Berkeley, CA. She married William (Bill) Richard Kampfe in 1951. The couple started their family in Houston, TX where Bill worked for Prudential. Bill and Sally transferred with the company to Jacksonville and remained there for nearly six decades.
Sally will be remembered fondly by many Jacksonville residents she taught at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Kindergarten during her 24-year tenure at the school. A devoted and respected member of Delta Gamma fraternity, Sally actively participated in the National Panhellenic Council (NPC) and the Jacksonville Alumnae Panhellenic Association (JAPA), serving as the latter's president from 1966-1967. Passionate about her faith and beloved church, Lakewood Presbyterian Church, Sally volunteered at Lakewood for more than 30 years, assisting in the office, teaching Sunday school and serving as an elder. Her other passions included attending University of Florida football games with her husband and children; counting the daily blessings in her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and appreciating her close family and enduring friends.
Sally is survived by son William (Dick) Richard Kampfe, Jr., wife Janice and their son Will; daughter Carol Kampfe Stratikis, husband Peter and her daughters Sarah Taylor and family (husband Tracy and son Max) and Katie Blackburn; son David Edgar Kampfe, wife Eileen and their children Marcus and family (wife Christin, children Tallia, Arden, Malia, Malachi and Layden), Matthew and family (wife Whitney, children Isabella, Benjamin and Walker), and David, Jr.; son John Ernest Kampfe, wife Jill and their daughter, Anna; son Charles Radler Kampfe, wife Cindy and their children Michelle Wheeler and family (husband Evan) and Myers; sisters Nancy Laessle, Diana Zanzot and husband, Douglas; many nieces and nephews; and countless others who considered Sally their greatest friend and moral inspiration. Her beloved husband Bill preceded her in death in 2010 as did her sister Mary Morris in 1982 and brother-in-law James Laessle in 2014.
A memorial service will be held in Jacksonville Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Blvd West, with the Reverend Terry Lucarelli officiating.
