Sandra Jones Dickinson, age 82, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. She was born on May 19th, 1942 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Samuel and Flora Jones. She graduated from Greensburg High School and Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
She worked as an RN at Baptist Medical Center of Jacksonville from September of 1963 to April of 2014.
She was a member of many associations and societies including Westmoreland Area Nurses Association in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), Florida Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (FLASPAN), Jacksonville Area of Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (JASPAN), William E. Getson Chapter #435 Order of Eastern Star in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was the first nurse in Jacksonville, Florida to achieve both National Certifications for Recovery Room Nurses: Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA) and Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN).
She was an active member of the PTA with her children’s school in Duval County and served in many officer positions. She was also on the Duval County Council of PTAs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Dickinson; sister-in-law, Charlene Jones; brother-in-law, Donald Thompson; and brother, Samuel Jones III.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Gettemy (Robert); sister-in-law, Elaine Thompson; daughter, Carol Sesco; son, John Dickinson; grandchildren, Donald Sesco III and Rebecca Sesco; nieces, Susan Ochal (Mark), Laurie Lund (Jon), Alison Jones, Holly Gettemy-Kitchen; nephews, Shawn Gettemy (Heather) and Samuel Jones IV (Sharon); and many great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge.
