Ruth Marie Gerhardt Weaver, 94, born in Cape Girardeau, MO, in 1923, passed away January 7, 2018, in Clemson, S.C. Since 1951 and for most of her adult life, she was a resident of Jacksonville, FL, and an active member of Murray Hill United Methodist Church, where she served in several capacities: Fidelis
Sunday School, Young at Hearts Choir, and other church administrative tasks. She also volunteered at the Florida Christian Home to serve elderly residents who needed a friendly smile and a little extra help. By organizing parties that included good food, board games, and just the right amount of competitive spirit, she was a creator of fun for her family and friends. Her grandchildren learned to add by playing dominos with her. After retirement, she and her husband, Tom Weaver, spent two years in their RV traveling across the country. They visited friends and family they hadn’t seen in many years and made new friends wherever they went. Because her own health declined in 2010, she moved to Clemson to be closer to family. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Weaver and two sisters Virginia Gerhardt Rhyne and Ruth’s twin Ruby Gerhardt. She is survived by two sons Kenneth A. Weaver (Barbara) of Clemson, SC and William T. Weaver (Robin) of West Palm Beach, FL; two nieces who were close like daughters Alice Rhyne Thompson (Bill deceased) of Jacksonville and Ellen Rhyne Goff (Ron) of Atlanta; three grandsons Michael Weaver (Connie) of Westminster, SC, Patrick Weaver (Macy) of Clemson, SC, and Paul Weaver (Linda) of Springhill, FL; three granddaughters Jennifer Southern of Statesboro, NC, Joy Taylor (Rick) of Lake Helen, FL, and Natalie Weaver of West Palm Beach, FL; five great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and several more nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Hill United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends at noon at the church prior to the funeral service. Internment will follow the funeral service at Riverside Memorial Park. Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel, 729 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, Florida 32205, is serving the family.
