Roy was born in Moultrie, GA to Lillard and Mildred Nobles on October 6, 1941. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army where he was awarded numerous honors including the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant after 26 years of dedicated service. He was married to Lawana Westberry on April 23, 1960 in Folkston, GA. After his retirement from the Army, he was a man on the move, spending 25 years as a truck driver locally and long haul. In 2007, he returned to Jacksonville, FL permanently where he enjoyed his retirement fishing, collecting coins, playing poker, and picking up odd jobs to fight the boredom. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Lillard and Mildred Nobles and his brothers, James “Bug” (Betty) Nobles, Ronald (Marie) Nobles and Johnny (Linda) Nobles.
Roy is survived by his ex-wife, Lawana Nobles, his son, Scott (Mary) Nobles, his sisters, Priscilla (Larry) Stafford and Valerie Edwards and his granddaughters, Ashley Scott and Kaitlyn Nobles.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 Saint Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Kidd of Mandarin Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens.
