Robert W. “Champ” Lockett, Jr., 77, passed away on August 26, 2015, after an 11 year battle with colon cancer. He was born in Leesburg, FL, to the late Bob and Mary Lou Lockett. Champ was raised in Jacksonville and graduated from R.E. Lee H.S. in 1956. He served three years in the USMC and then graduated from FSU in 1966 where he played football. Champ retired from Duval County Public Schools after 31 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Butler Lockett; daughter, E. Ginger (Myron) Long; son, L. Lee (Joelle) Lockett, Esq.; grandsons, Matthew and Christopher Long and Max Lockett; sister, Penny (Sam) Calloway; in-laws, Maureen (Al) Bassett, Karen (Billy) Parker and Jim Butler, Jr.; and our caring friends and neighbors especially Linda Ghanayem and Community Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N. www.hardage-giddenschapelhills.com. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
