Bob was always such an inspiration. He led his family with holiness and strength and had just the best sense of humor.

Darla and children, I am so sorry for your loss and can completely empathize with the path you are now on. My prayers are with you daily, and I trust Jesus will provide the comfort and peace you will need in the coming months and years after losing your best friend, your husband and your father. My children and I are two years into this tragedy of losing Elaine to Covid, and the hole in our hearts is as big as ever. I heard a good quote recently that might help: "Grief doesn't ever get lighter. We just get used to carrying the weight." That's a good summation of how I've felt and likely how you will all feel as time passes. Darla, I remember meeting you for the first time when I visited Bob on that crazy visit to FSU! I'll never forget how he took me aside privately at one point and said, "Joe, she's the one. I know I will marry her because she's the love of my life." You and I were blessed with unusually loving marriages, and our losses leave holes that can't be filled. But we will go on, knowing that one day we will be reunited with our great loves. Bob was a special person, a special friend, and a special family man whose memory I will cherish. Grieve well, Cook family.

Bob – There aren’t enough words to express how thankful I am for having had you as a friend.  For the last 40+ years I’ve always known that I could count on you to be there for me through the good and the bad.  Our days at FSU, our shared love of FSU football and of course “Surf and Turf Fridays” followed by our camping adventures will always be a part of me.  From the very start, you made Linda and me feel like part of the group, and it was really appreciated.  I’m really going to miss you.  Love ya’ Brother.

Darla - I hope you know how much Bob, you, and your entire family mean to Linda and me.  Your children are some of the best and brightest.  They never could have done it without the participation of both you and Bob in their lives.  You’re some of the best parents I know.  Please always remember two things – first, you’re going to continue camping (when the time is right) and second, Linda and I love you and are always here for you, please call on us for whatever you need.


Bob was an amazing man and will be so missed by all who knew and loved him. Continued prayers for Bob, Darla and family.

Darla, children and all of Bob's loved ones, I am so sorry for your loss. Having lost my wife two years ago, I was heartbroken when you all had to go through the same terrible hospital trauma. Bob was my best friend when we were teens. When he moved, I drove several states to visit him and one time took multiple buses to see him at his beloved FSU! It was during that visit that I met a new person in his life named Darla, and he told me in private that she was the love of his life and he was going to marry her. We know the rest of that love story! It's been a joy to watch Bob, Darla and their family grow over the years. Bob was so kind that he sent care packages to my family when we lived overseas as missionaries for 10 years! When I told my 4 kids that Bob had passed, they all immediately remembered his much-anticipated candy and gift boxes! We also had the chance awhile back to visit briefly in Jax when we were back from Thailand. Bob has been in my life for many decades, and I'll never forget you, brother. And you can trust me to pray for Darla and your children regularly until we meet again in heaven with Jesus. I love you, my friend.

We all prayed to the Lord but he had a plan that we did not know. He took the most special person on this earth to you and your beautiful family. He truly enjoyed life and I know how special he made me feel. He always seemed to find time to answer my questions and to assist everyone. I felt a bond with him from day one. I realized how special he was and yet did not really know him at first. I felt like I knew him my entire life. He was so helpful to me when I worked in JAX and I will always be grateful for his kindness. Yet he loved camping and life. He was the most accomplished and loving man I ever met. Both you and Bob raised the most brilliant and loving children I have ever seen. You are both so special and I wish you peace even though your soulmate is now with Jesus. It is so sudden and does not seem to be fair but Jesus had a plan that he needed another angel and so he picked the best Bob. I will continue his legacy and publish about our family tree and honor his name and research. I will help carry on his love for his family and proud heritage.
