Robert M. Allen, 89, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away in the loving care of his friends at Community Hospice on March 6, 2016. He was born in Jacksonville to Frank and Izy Allen on March 19, 1926. Robert was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy, 1943-1946, and the Army, 1950-1953. He received his Bachelors degree from Oglethorpe University and Masters degrees from Georgia State University. After retiring as a teacher from the Atlanta school system, Robert went on to drive a long-haul mail truck and spent many years as a tax preparer. His biggest passion in life was his ministry, which, in his later life, included his years of volunteer service with Community Hospice of NE Florida and his active membership at St. Peters Episcopal Church. His other passions were motorcycles, which he rode for many decades, and model trains. Robert is predeceased by his sisters, Marnee Lunsford, Shirley Ganey Thompson and Ginger Smotherman. He is survived by 8 nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count. A memorial service will be held on March 10, 2016, at 10:00, at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 5042 Timuquana Road, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257. A graveside service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30pm on Wednesday April 13, 2016.
