Active Duty Police Officer Richard A. Caldwell passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the age of 45 from colon cancer. Officer Caldwell was a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for 13 years (June 2003-September 2016). Officer Caldwell went to the University of North Florida after high school where he earned a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He works as a substitute school teacher, social counselor and with the “Footlocker” company in Jacksonville prior to becoming involved with law enforcement. Officer Caldwell started as a Bailiff before crossing over to become a Police Officer in June 2003. He spent most of his time with JSO as a Patrol Officer in Zone 3, to include a two year tour of duty on a walking beat in the San Marco area. Officer Caldwell served a total of 13 years and 2 months with JSO before his passing away. Officer Caldwell is survived by his 5 year old daughter, Ava; brother, Jeff; and sister, Susan Borsodi. Officer Caldwell will be cremated and a memorial service in his honor will be conducted on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Arlington Presbyterian Church, 1351 Sprinkle Drive at 10:00am. JSO Honor Guard services will be rendered.
