SHAD-HARDIE – Peggy McCaskill Shad Hardie of Jacksonville, FL, was born January 6, 1927 to Pearl & Stanley McCaskill. At the age of 95, Peggy went home to the Lord peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Harold W. Shad, Jr., her second husband, Dr. A. Lawson Hardie, Jr., and her sister Priscilla Freeman.
Peggy was born in Perry, FL, and graduated from Taylor County High School. In 1945 she went into nurses training in Jacksonville where she met Harold while caring for his mother. They married in 1946 and together raised 4 children and owned and operated Baby DyDee Service for over 30 Years. During the early 1980’s they lived in Highlands, NC, where they owned and ran The Servants House, a Christian book store. Peggy loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She was a member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church.
Peggy is survived by 4 children, Mike (Jennie) Shad, Suzanne (Dick) Shad Nichols, Gail (Eric) Shad Brill, and Kathy (Frank) Shad Canto; 10 grandchildren, Bill (Piper) Shad, Kelly (Darin) Brill Jones, Jack (Lori) Shad, Kristen (Todd) Canto Declemente, Kari Brill, Melissa (Joey) Canto Brenner, Matthew Nichols, Scott Shad (Deceased), Nick (Kristi) Canto, Mark (Jackie) Nichols; 11 great-grandchildren, Kloe & Jackson Brill, Isabella & Gabriella Declemente, Michael & Jane Shad, Harper Shad, Noah & Preston Canto, and Jack & Holly Brenner.
The memorial service will be in the Legacy Lodge at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207, on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peggy’s memory to The Salvation Army.
