Pamela Sue Whilden, 79, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Born in Minneapolis, MN on September 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late James Evans Shearer and Betty Sue Gilson Shearer. Pam was a graduate from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology where she met her husband of 59 years, Barry Whilden. She was an amazing loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nana) and great-grandmother. More than anything she loved spending time with her family at their lake house in Keystone Heights or traveling to Valdosta, GA or as far as Durant, Oklahoma. She enjoyed playing tennis with the ladies at San Jose Country Club, hunting for sharks’ teeth on the beach and was a devoted member of the Periwinkle Garden Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Whilden of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter Christy (Scott) Daughtry of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter Kim (Bubba) Highsmith of Valdosta, Georgia, granddaughter Kimberly (Brad) Bos of Durant, Oklahoma, grandson Drew Wierenga of Jacksonville, Florida, granddaughter Brooke Wierenga of Jacksonville, Florida, granddaughter Madison Highsmith of Valdosta, Georgia, grandson Parker Highsmith of Valdosta, Georgia and great-granddaughter Adeline Bos of Durant, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Jim (Kathy) Shearer of Charlotte, NC, brother, Dr. Jeff (Terri) Shearer of Jacksonville, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whilden will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Lodge at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel. The family will have a reception following the service at San Jose Country Club from 11:00 until 1:00 to celebrate the life of Pam.
