He is predeceased by his daughter Deanne Butler.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years Ardell G. Mapes whom he married in 1963; son James Mapes of Jacksonville, FL; daughters Yvonne Hawkins of Jacksonville, FL and Teresa Diederichs of Virginia Beach, VA; stepchildren Gerald Carbonneau of Kennesaw, GA and Arlene Driggers of Jacksonville as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Olin joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1939 and was a member of the United States Marine Corp from 1940-1946. He served in the South Pacific in 1942 and was a veteran of Tarawa in 1943. He joined the US Navy in 1947 and retired in 1960 as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked with the Jax Port Authority from 1960-1966 and the US Customs Service in 1967 as a Special Agent. He was also a Special Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration in 1973. He retired in 1979 with 32 years of Federal service.
In retirement, he travelled extensively.
He was a member of the Florida Cortez Club.
Family will receive friends on Saturday July 25, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a celebration of Olin’s life beginning at 11:00 AM at the Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
