Neil Christopher Taylor, 87, a longtime resident of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2015 after a lengthy illness. He was married to Janice O’Steen Taylor until her death on June 14, 2007. He is survived by his sons, Neil C. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Pegge, Mark D. Taylor and his wife Ginny; and son-in-law, Wayne Perpall. He is also survived by his much loved granddaughters, Mindy, Kirsten, Dana, Jenna and Alex; and his cousin, Norma Poston. He was predeceased by his mother, Leonora Taylor and daughter, Janice Eileen Taylor.
Neil graduated from Duke University in 1949 with a degree in accounting, earned the designation as a Certified Public Accountant and also graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1954. He was a partner with the firm of Taylor, Moseley and Joyner until his retirement in 1996. He was also the president and owner of Oaklawn Cemetery Association, past president of San Jose
Country Club, an active member of San Jose Episcopal Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Gator Bowl Association. Neil’s love of handball as well as golf was evident by the many tournaments he won, including earning the title of City Handball Champion. Neil will be deeply missed by all who knew him and will be remembered for his huge heart, kind spirit and generosity for others.
The family will receive friends from five thirty until seven thirty in the evening on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at The Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd.,Jacksonville, Florida. Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Crossing for their dedication, love and support of Neil while in their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice or San Jose Episcopal Church. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family.
