DECEMBER 24, 1955 – APRIL 5, 2024
Mitchell(Mitch) D. Marcus, born December 24,1955 in Miami Beach, Florida, to Kermit and Florence Schieber Marcus, passed away on April 5, 2024. He is survived by his spouse Lee W. Grose and sisters Mona (Lee) Travis, Marcia (Ron) Strazzulla and Melinda Powers. He has been a resident of Jacksonville since 1990. Mitch loved his family(especially his nieces and nephews), his pets, his friends, photography, reading and gardening. Mitch was deeply passionate about politics and public health.
Mitch graduated from Florida State University in 1977. After graduation he worked in student financial aid at Florida A&M University, briefly in South Dakota and then at Otterbein College in Ohio. In 1985, he moved to Atlanta and entered sales. In 1986, he moved to Orlando, Florida where he worked as a client relations manager for telecommunications and met his husband Lee in 1988. In 1990, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Lee was stationed. After a successful career in telecommunications, he decided to follow his passion and work in public health. He volunteered for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention causes in Orlando and Jacksonville but in 2003, he began working in the field. His favorite job was working for the Health Department as an Early Intervention Consultant and Contract Management where he worked until 2014.
A graveside service for Mitchell will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
