Tim graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1978. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Technology Management from the University of Maryland and a Master's Degree in Diplomacy and Military Science from Norwich University.
Tim proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1978 to August 1983. Afterwards, Tim continued to serve our country in various roles and locations around the world for the Department of Defense. He also served in the Air Force Reserve and Navy Reserve.
During his service as part of the U.S. Air Force, Tim was stationed at Lackland AFB, Chanute AFB, Castle AFB, Rammstein AFB and Griffis AFB. During his time with the Department of Defense, Tim served in San Antonio, TX; Yokosuka, Japan; Washington, DC; Mechanicsburg, PA; Jacksonville, FL and Athens, GA. In 2009, Tim retired as Executive Director for the Center for Service Support, a major command of the Naval Training Command, in Athens, GA.
Tim was a member of Avondale Baptist Church and SGI-USA. He was active in the American Legion and Lions Club. He was also a Special Constable and supporter of the community library in Belize where he and his wife lived the past 5 years following his retirement.
Tim enjoyed exploring, fishing, gardening and spending time with his beloved pets Lido, Mocha and Mr. Rum.
Tim is survived by his wife, Yumiko Ozawa Sheppard; son, Joshua Sheppard; mother Joy Goff; father and step-mother, Roy and Kathy Sheppard; brothers, Connor and Chris Sheppard.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 6 from 5-8 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, where a celebration of Tim's life will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
