Mary spent most of her early childhood in Columbus, GA. She returned back to Malone, FL around the age of 13. She enjoyed being a cheerleader and a majorette as well as being in the Glee club. Malone was also where she met the love of her life, Toy Glass. They were high school sweethearts. Life circumstances caused them to part ways but they eventually reunited and joined in marriage on September 17, 1966.
Mary moved with Toy to Jacksonville, Florida once they wed which became her home for the next 35 years. They were happily married for 20 years before his sudden passing in January 1987. But during those 20 years, Mary and Toy certainly enjoyed their time together—they loved family time, traveling, fishing, dancing, neighborhood parties, and FSU home football games.
Mary was an attentive stay-at-home mother who raised her children with love and affection. She taught them to be self-sufficient but always put them first. She enjoyed spending time with her friends as well as family. She was in a bowling league and in a Bunco group with a wonderful group of friends for 20+ years.
In April 2001, Mary moved to Clermont, FL to be near her daughter and grandsons. Throughout her remaining 20 years, she enjoyed being a part of their family life. She loved watching Jared and Mark grow up—they were her world and lights of her life! Her greatest passion was watching them perform in shows and she rarely missed one! She also loved to watch movies and reality TV was her guilty pleasure. And of course, being a passionate and avid fan of FSU Seminole football…she faithfully watched them play for the past 56 years!
Mary will finally rejoin the love of her life and be placed by his side on January 15, 2022. But her beautiful presence will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 11:00 am at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. There will be a Celebration of Life reception immediately following in the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge at Oaklawn Cemetery.
