Lieutenant Mark Richard Stewart, age 41, of the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2015. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica; his mother, Karen Strickland (Jack); father, Jerry Stewart; brother, Brad Stewart (Mary); nephews, Noah and Liam; mother and father-in-law, Beverly and Eddie Clanton; sisters-in-law, Kelly Masteller (Bryan), Sarah Kaleel (Josh). Also surviving are his extended family of the JFRD and all of the members of Station 44.
A 12 year veteran of the JFRD, Mark faithfully served the city of Jacksonville with unflinching courage. He enjoyed passing time on the water, playing music with friends, lifting weights, training at the Chintokan Dojo and most of all spending time with Jessica and their dog Sadie. Forever young, forever draped in honor and valor, forever loved by everyone who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance, Mark will be sorely missed by all. May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another.
The family will receive friends and a rosary will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, June 15, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 11730 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, Florida at eleven o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
