Marion Vickers Williamson, age 64, of Tuscaloosa, AL, died May 10, 2010, at home. Visitation will be Friday (today) from 5 to 7 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave. Services will be 2:30 PM Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Williamson, her mother, Miriam Syms Vickers, and her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Drew Vickers and Mr. & Mrs. William Syms.
Survivors include her daughters, Jennie Williamson Pickett (Dan) of Birmingham, AL and Mandy Williamson Cobb (Joe) of Tuscaloosa, AL; her father, Louis Smith Vickers of Jasper, FL; and her grandchildren, Charles Reid Pickett of Birmingham, and Sarah Faucett Cobb, Joseph Truett Cobb, II, and Mary Thomas Cobb, all of Tuscaloosa.
Marion was a native of Jacksonville. She received her BA from Brenau University and her MA from The University of North Florida. She was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority. Marion retired from the Duval County School System, where she taught over 30 years. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and worked actively with the youth ministry. Marion and George moved to Tuscaloosa in 2005 to be close to their daughters and Alabama football. She received great joy these past few years reading and playing with her four grandchildren. Marion was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Joe Cobb, Dan Pickett, Jim Price, Bill Williamson, David Williamson and Ray Williamson, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to UAB Gynecologic Oncology, Women & Infant Center, 1700 6th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233.
