Marian Joyce Siegel passed away peacefully on July 20, 2011, surrounded in love by family and friends. Born in Winter Park, Florida, to the late Etta and Abe Shapiro, she and her family moved to Jacksonville in her early years. She was predeceased by her adoring husband of over 50 years, Bernard Siegel. Together they enjoyed many years of golf, investment, and card clubs with their friends at Beauclerc, Baymeadows, and Deercreek Country Clubs. She was a member of Congregation Ahavath Chesed for many years. She attended Robert E. Lee High, Florida State for Women, and L.S.U. She enjoyed volunteering in her children’s schools, as well as, health-related causes. She looked forward to her weekly bridge, canasta, and golf games where she forged many years of friendship with her girlfriends. Learning golf in midlife, she proudly earned status in the Hole in One Club.
She is survived by daughters, Leslie Austin, Laine Silverfield, and son-in-law, Gary Silverfield; grandsons, Leed and wife Becky, Ryan and fiancé Mariana Lopez; great-grandchildren, Anson and Grant. Her grandsons were the loves of her life. She enthusiastically attended all of their school, religious and athletic activities.
She predeceases her sisters, Claire Barton and Keenie Belford; nieces Carol Barber (Steve), Shirley Cohen (Perry), Paula Lerner, Terri Belford, Pam Belford, Wendy Lerer (Hank), Sharon Frankel (Arnie); nephews Dr. Phillip Siegel (Nancy)and Bob Seigele(Barbara); numerous cousins including Betty Singer and Barbi Young(Larry). She leaves behind decades of close friends and neighbors, but will be joining a host of friends and family who have missed her wit and humor. At her request, services will be private. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2011, in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin.
