Marcia was born on February 27, 1936 in Apalachicola, Florida to John Russell and Alma W. Anthony Shaw (aka Mama Shaw). As a small child, the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where her father started the first Crab Plant in Florida on the Trout River in Panama Park. Now known as Shaw's Family Seafood, Marcia and her three siblings were instilled with their Father's knowledge and expertise in the Seafood Industry. The Shaw Family continues running the business today.
Marcia attended Landon High School, Jacksonville University, and University of Texas. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Marcia was an accomplished Barrel Horse Racer, opera singer, and pianist. In her retirement, she was an avid reader and needlepoint pillow maker. Marcia was very proud of her amazing antique Crystal collection which she meticulously acquired over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughters, Natalie Anne and Nancy Anne Skinner.
Marcia is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Sherrill Mercer (Robin) of Grand Junction, Colorado and Marcia Anne Skinner (Scott) of Franklin, North Carolina; her siblings, Sylvia Jewell Pitman (Billy), John Russell Shaw Jr. (Debra), Howard Joseph Shaw (Bozena) of Jacksonville Florida; and her four grandchildren, Valerie Mercer, Avery Mercer, Cory Skinner (Julie), and Holly Skinner. She is also survived by her cousins, Denise Roux Vaughn (Dana) of Seguin, Texas and Susan Roux Keith (Chuck) of Ocala, Florida, and many nieces, and nephews.
Marcia will be missed by her many friends, especially her BFF Yvonne Cotten, and her devoted Caregiver, Charlene with her two daughters, Jade and Lexus.
A service for Marcia will be held at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 4:00pm, with a reception immediately following. She will be laid to rest at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery.
