Luis was born in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela, on October 2,1990. He attended La Universidad del Zulia, where he earned a law degree in 2016. That same year, while visiting family in Jacksonville, Luis met his future husband and immigrated to the United States, where he eventually became a proud US citizen.
Luis’ personal experience with the United States immigration system inspired him to pursue a career in immigration law. Leveraging both his experience and his legal education, Luis became an immigration paralegal and a Board of Immigration Appeals accredited representative. He worked for a number of years with the immigration department of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Inc. and more recently at the Law Office of Karen Winston LLC, concentrating on immigration law.
In his free time, Luis enjoyed cooking and hosting family dinners, traveling the world with his husband, reading, working out at the gym, shopping for clothes, and spending time with his friends and family.
Luis is survived by his father Jorge Fernando Graterol and Liceida of Jacksonville, Florida; his mother Ingrid Coromoto Pirela and Alexander Gonzalez Gonzalez of Jacksonville; and his beloved Gregory Gerald Foster and their pugs Ru and Bob. Luis is also survived by seven loving siblings: Marielba Graterol Pirela of Jacksonville; Carolina Graterol Pirela of Jacksonville; Joseth Veronica Graterol Becerra of Maracaibo, Venezuela; Adrian Graterol Becerra of Maracaibo, Venezuela; Jorge Fernando Graterol Pirela and Cristina of Jacksonville; Paola Vanessa Graterol Sulbaran of Jacksonville; and Fabiola Cristina Graterol Sulbaran of Jacksonville. He is survived by five nieces and nephews: Maria Fernanda Fuenmayor, Carlos Javier Boscan, Henry de Jesus Carruyo, Santiago David Graterol, and his godson Luis Fernando Montaña. Luis is also survived by adoring members of his Foster family: Sonja Darlyn Hickman; Gerald Glynn Johnson; and Chad, Anna, Juliana, William, Aaden and Elizabeth Foster.
A visitation for Luis will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
