Kathy Joanne Wesley Tierney, 69, passed away on March 17, 2019 after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. She was born on February 24, 1950 to Skiler and Kathleen Wesley in Cincinnati, OH and in her late 20’s moved to Jacksonville, FL where she lived for the rest of her life. She is survived by her husband, Tom; brother, Larry Wesley (Martha); sisters, Brenda Royalty (Steve), Marilynn Glaser (Randy), Annette Hatfield (Jeff); and step-children, Tom Jr., Jennifer (Jerry), Kerry (Kent) and Brendan (Daphne) Tierney. Kathy is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Alexis Wesley, Rebecca Kelly (Dave), Stephen Michael Royalty (Kelly), Mark Royalty, Brandi Merchant (Dan); great nieces and nephews, Emily Kelly, Mat Kelly, Kyler Royalty, little Mark Royalty and Patrick Merchant; as well as step grand-children Cassidy Tierney, Dylan and Kyle Rukab and Colin Tierney. She is also survived by her beloved fur babies, Dixie Girl, Batman and Smokey.
Kathy was dearly loved and adored by many close friends and neighbors, and she was honored to be treated by so many amazing and compassionate health care providers, especially Dr. Paul Nowicki who was always a source of strength and inspiration to her. After graduating high school she attended Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, TN. Then she moved back to Cincinnati and started her own day care so that she could be around very young children. After doing this for about 5-6 years, she eventually moved to Jacksonville, FL to escape the cold weather. Kathy preferred to always be able to wear shorts, sandals and sundresses…not long pants and winter coats!
Kathy got into the financial line of work and eventually met who was to be her longtime best friend and ultimately her husband, Tom Tierney. They were inseparable – and they were Soul Mates! They were blessed with many years of pure happiness and love. Kathy will always be remembered for her beautiful smile that would light up even the darkest room! She also always had beautiful long, natural nails she was very proud of, and all of us girls were very envious of. She was always eager to make everyone she met her friend, and anyone who met Kathy would instantly fall in love with her…her kindness…her laughter…her heart, pouring of love and caring. All of us who were fortunate to know and love Kathy will miss her greatly, but we are the lucky ones because we all have such wonderful memories of great times shared with Kathy that we will cherish. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to MD Anderson Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society or Best Friends Animal Society.
