Kamal Abraham Farah, a well-loved fixture at Farah's of Downtown, departed this life on Sunday, June 4, 2017. He was born in Valdosta, Georgia on August 3, 1943. Shortly after, the Farah family moved to the Springfield neighborhood in Jacksonville. Kamal Farah graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, enlisted in the Army and served as a cook. Thus began his lifelong love of the food industry. Farah first owned a restaurant in Jacksonville Beach, then opened his first diner style sandwich shop on Forsyth Street in 1973. He served the downtown community for 40 years, and even when the restaurant changed locations several times according to Farah's plan and vision, his customers happily followed. Farah had a generous spirit and a larger than life personality. He was a lifelong member of the Ramallah-American Club. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Renee Farah; son Steven Farah (Barbara); and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins who all love him beyond measure.
