Dr. John O. Parrish was a lover of life, people, laughter, fishing, Auburn football, and good stories. He was well known for his excellent dentistry, sense of humor, warmth, and ability to make people laugh and feel comfortable.
A few of his most endearing traits, developed early in life, were his humility, quick wit, generosity, and somewhat stubborn nature – can I get an Amen?
John grew up in Auburn where he fished and hunted in local lakes, often pursuing these activities before school. He attended Auburn University, then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where was elected Student President. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served at Honolulu Naval Clinic. While in Hawaii, he learned to sail and developed his love of the ocean, which stayed with him throughout his life.
After completing his naval service, John moved his family to Jacksonville and opened his own dental practice, well known for the blue door. Most people fear a trip to the dentist, but John was sensitive, unique, and committed to creating as little pain and anxiety as possible.
John left us at the age of 90 on December 22, 2024. He is survived by his loving family including: his sons, David and Robert Parrish; bonus sons and daughters, Shannon Mudd (Jenifer) Renee Cline, and Shawna Watson (Bill); grandchildren: B. Parrish, Savannah and Jordan Mudd, Katelan and Katherine Cline; and his wife, Davy, the love of his life.
Celebration of life is Monday, December 30th at 11am at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge at 4801 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville.
