John Franklin Hall Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 21, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 90. John was born on March 31, 1928 to John Franklin Hall and Harriett Martha Hendricks. John was proud of his heritage, being a seventh generation descendant of the Hendricks family one of the founding families of Jacksonville. He spoke often and adored the memories made at his childhood home located at 517 East Adams Street in the heart of downtown. He equally cherished his time spent at the Hall family homestead at Wakulla Beach with his father’s family, especially his grandmother, “Miss Mattie” Alice McLendon.
John graduated in 1946 from Landon High School. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree, Cum Laude, from Jacksonville University in Accounting. On May 2, 1987, at age 59, he earned his Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida where he received the special award of “Outstanding Psychology Graduate Student”.
John began his work with the State of Florida as the Assistant Auditor General. In December 1967, John accepted the position of Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court where he stayed in that position for the next twenty-five years, retiring on September 30, 1992.
John married Ann Beam on July 08, 1950. Together they had 3 children, John, Michael and Susan.
He later married Brenda Tillis on October 24, 1992. John adored Brenda and she was his world. During their almost 34 years together they were inseparable, finding great happiness just being together.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents; sister, Harriett Mildred Ake and brother “Scooty” James Courtney Hall; and his beloved grandparents. John is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; sons John (Dena) Franklin Hall III and Michael Glenn Hall; daughter Susan Lee Hall Porter; 7 Grandchildren, John, James and Jefferson Hall; Aaron and Sarah Hall, Jennifer and Andrew Porter; 11 Great-Grandchildren and many other cherished family members.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11:00am at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel & Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 6 – 8pm. at the funeral home.
