John—one of thirteen children—was born to John Nathan Bennett and Eva Mills Bennett in Lashmeet, West Virginia on January 2, 1936. He met and married the love of his life, Virginia Stump, at the age of 21 on August 23, 1957. She was by his side 65 years until his last breath.
He served two years in the Army before beginning his career as a pipefitter, retiring as a member of the Pipefitter’s Local Union 120 in 1988. John was a devoted member of the Cedar Hills congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Like his father, John was a skilled storyteller and loved the outdoors.
John is survived by his wife, their two children (Glenn Bennett and Eva [Jeffrey] Harbottle), four grandchildren (Joan [Zachary] Oleson, Jeremy [Nikki] Harbottle, Amanda [Garry] Yedkois, and Austin Bennett), and three great-grandchildren (Kyleigh Harbottle, Caroline Harbottle, and Colin Bennett).
His family invites friends to attend a visitation at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home & Riverside Memorial Park at 7242 Normandy Boulevard on May 12 from 5 - 7 p.m. A memorial service will be hosted by the Cedar Hills congregation at a later date.
