Joan (Betty) Wilcox Abram passed away on November 6, 2022. She was 94. Betty was born on May 2, 1928, to Walter and Ada Lee Hofferberth in Rock Hill, SC, and moved to Dayton, Ohio, as a baby. She lived in Dayton for the next 70 years, where she graduated from Fairview High School, Class of 1946. She married Eugene Wilcox on September 29, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio. She retired from Nationwide Insurance District Claims Office after 23 years of service.
Betty and Gene moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1999 to be near their family. They were members of Mandarin United Methodist Church, and she was a member of the Mandarin Senior Center where she loved to play Pinochle.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Eugene Wilcox, on June 6, 2002. On October 15, 2011, she married Willis Abram, and they enjoyed 11 years together.
Betty is survived by her husband, Willis Abram; her daughters, Cynthia Carroll (Wade), and Beverly Loyd (Tim); four grandchildren, Troy Carroll, Robbie Rader (Katy), Ryan Rader (Katie), and Kimberly Thomas (Chris), all of Jacksonville; eight great grandchildren, Tyler (Aubrie), Hunter and Shelby Carroll; Ryan, Faith and Bobby Rader; and Caitlyn and Sophia Thomas; four great great granddaughters, Rylie, Natalie and Everleigh Carroll; and Copelynn Bourne; one sister, Ruth Gardner Hartshorn of Prospect, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 5:00 PM, at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio, with a graveside service.
