July 16, 1943 – December 16, 2022
Jim “Papa” was called home to his Heavenly father in the early morning hours of December 16, 2022. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. His family moved to Mandarin in 1952 where he built his life with his wife and raised his children.
He met his soul mate in August 1959, and they were married on August 30, 1963. Together they raised their son and daughter and shared 59 years of marriage.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was always there to support his family.
He retired after 38 years of service to Southern Bell/Bellsouth/AT&T in 2001.
Jim’s devotion to his family and career can only be matched by his passion for hunting and fishing. He never failed to wake up his children, grandchildren, or friends bright and early for hunting or fishing. He was a founding member of Clayno Hunting Club that was established in 1972. He earned his CB handle “Hop Sing” at Clayno Hunting Club because he always enjoyed cooking for everyone.
Awaiting Jim in Heaven are his father James L Hughes Sr., his mother Maudelle Carroll, his brother Samuel D Hughes, his son-in-law Wesley D Moore, his niece and nephews Angie Coronado, Charles Duggan, Jerry Duggan, and his 1st great-grandchild Addison Blair Roske, along with a few dear friends.
