James Stephen “Steve” Gladden, 73, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Born on January 17, 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida to Rupert and Edna Gladden. He graduated from Paxon Sr. High, The Class of 1957. After graduation Steve immediately went into the US Marines Corp., where he was honorably discharged in April 1963. Upon his discharge he went to work as an officer on the Duval Country Road Patrol, where he served until it consolidated with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. He then worked 25 years as their Court Bailiff for the Duval County Courthouse, where he retired in November 1991. Steve then went to work as an US Federal Marshall. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Edna Gladden; his daughter, Mary Linda Gladden, and his son, Larry Ray Gladden. Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Godfrey Gladden; granddaughters, Heather Gladden, and Jessica Briggs Smith; grandsons, Stephen Ray Gladden and Keith G. Briggs II; one great grandson, Chevy R. Smith; 4 sisters, Yvonne Pittman, Jean Glorious (Larry), Joyce Sale (Bruce), and Betty Andrews (Andy); 2 brothers, Wayne Gladden (Agnes) and Dale Gladden. The family visitation to greet friends will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL., 32205. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00am, Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, Jacksonville, FL., 32205. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.
