Jacqueline Ruth DeWitt, born August 22, 1940 in Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on August 19, 2018, in Jacksonville, Florida, from complications associated with her 40-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was preceded in death by her father, LCdr Fred DeWitt, USN, and her mother, Eunice Williams DeWitt. As a service dependent, she lived in Rhode Island, Panama, Maryland, the Philippines, California, and Florida. Early in her career, she was employed by the law firm of Glickstein & Glickstein, in Jacksonville. Later, before returning to Jacksonville, she was employed as a Manager/Auditor for the Frontier Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jackie is survived by a brother and his wife, Fred and Judith DeWitt of Jacksonville, Florida; a brother Stephen DeWitt of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Shirley DeWitt Dean, or New Bern, North Carolina; a nephew and his wife, Joshua and Sarah DeWitt, and their two daughters, of Fort Irwin, California; a niece Jennifer DeWitt, of Jacksonville, Florida; and a niece Sarah DeWitt Reed, and daughter, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
She was a member of the Order of the Daughters of The King at St. John’s Cathedral. Services and a reception are to be held at St. John’s Cathedral at 256 East Church St., Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday, September 7, 2018, starting at 10 AM, during which her ashes will be interred in the Bishop’s Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Multiple Sclerosis Society.
