Jacob (Jake) Andrew Melcolm passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the age of 82. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. His family and close friends were what he enjoyed most in life. Jake was born July 9, 1933 in Palatka, Florida. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1953 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly after, and served 5 years as an armament mechanic.
After his discharge, he worked for Western Electric for 28 years and retired in 1984, and later retired from the Duval County School Board in 2003. Jake also enjoyed fishing the waters of the Gulf of Mexico with his brother-in-laws. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Juanita; his daughters, Sandy, Donna (Charlie) Laskey, and Wendy; his son, Rusty (Kim); six grandchildren, Taylor, Reed, and Jessie Melcolm, Skylar and Sydney Carter, Rachel Laskey; one great-grandson, Easton Fitzpatrick; and his brother, Don (Ellie).
Celebration of Life services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida 32207, on February 26th at 12:00pm the family will be accepting guest one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jake’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinsonfoundation.org.
