She was born June 20, 1925 in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her parents, Cletus and Marie Gallagher; her sister, Dorothy Gallagher, and her loving spouse, Robert Strauss. She leaves behind many cherished friends. Irene was a Parishioner at St. Joesph’s Catholic Church where she enjoyed daily Mass until she was no longer able to attend. She was thankful to continue Communion and Mass during her time in assisted living.
Irene was an educator, teaching in many schools throughout her career. She earned several Master’s in Education and thrived to continuing learning as well as teaching. Her career led her to her soulmate, Robert Strauss. Married in December 1992, they enjoyed over twenty-one years of retirement, companionship, and travel with many friends and relatives.
Visitation for Irene will be Friday, July 21, at 9:15, followed by a funeral Mass at Saint Joseph’s Historical Church, 4124 Loretto Rd, Jacksonville, FL. A committal service will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL.
