In loving memory of Harris LaRue Bonnette, Jr., who passed away peacefully December 29, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL, at the age of 60, after a battle with cancer. Harris was born August 24, 1963, in Columbia, SC to Harris Sr. and Mary Lynn(Hall) Bonnette.
Harris’ passion for tax law led him to attain a J.D. degree from the University of Miami and a LL.M degree in taxation from Washington University. Harris was a highly motivated tax law professional with 33 years experience in the private and public sector, culminating with his tenure as Partner at Fisher, Tousey, Leas, & Ball. Harris’ professional impact also extended beyond work; he guided students as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law from 2009 to 2022 and served as Chairman of the Tax Section of the Florida Bar from 2021 to 2022.
Harris’ life was enriched by his wife (Linda), his son Marshall, Linda’s children Rick (Jenica) Weyand, Nicole (Adam) Gissal and two grandchildren (Devin, Raegan). At home, Harris found joy boating on the Saint John’s River, savoring sunsets with Linda, and early morning drives in his 1982 Corvette. Above all, Harris treasured quality time with family, frequently visiting them in Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota.
Remembered for his generosity, curiosity, and vibrant spirit, Harris was the heart of any gathering, genuinely interested in everyone he met. His motivational mantra, "A man's gotta believe in something" defined his inspirational drive.
In accordance with his wishes, a private memorial will be held at Harris’ home, where immediate family will gather to celebrate his life. Harris LaRue Bonnette, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of dedication, wisdom, and love, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
