Gregory Wayne Hazelton was born at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL on June 22, 1969. He was born with the birth defect of Spina Bifida and since his level of complete paralysis was at chest level (T -10) and the major medical problems associated with it, he was not expected to see Birthday #1. Surprise! Surprise!
Greg was confined to a wheelchair but accomplished and excelled at everything he attempted. He attended public schools, graduating from Middleburg High School. Greg got his driver’s license and drove multiple cars and vans equipped with hand controls and ramps. He was married and divorced and owned his own home.
Over the years, Greg went to a multitude of concerts, wrestling matches and excursions to SeaWorld and Disney. He loved the outdoors.
He worked an astonishing 30 years at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital on University Boulevard in Jacksonville. As the main lobby receptionist and phone operator, he interacted with clients and families; called codes and directing traffic.
Greg was a quiet, gentle, kind and caring person, loved animals and took in stray cats (and humans) over the years. He was always willing to help when needed.
Gregory passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2024. He leaves behind his mother and step-father Barbara and Richard Grisco; Brother Ricky and a multitude of family members from Florida, New England and California. He will be missed!
