Frederick Curtis “Charles” Krueger passed away on April 23, 2017 in the company of loving family. Charles was born on December 2, 1927 in Jacksonville to Fredrich Wilhelm Krueger and Lydia Anna Minnie Keller. He graduated from The Bolles School and Capital University in Columbus, Ohio (he was a national collegiate Bridge champion) and served as a pilot in the Air Force.
He married the beautiful Jeanne Oetjen in 1954, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage before she passed away in 2010. Charles had a sharp and inquiring mind and a zest for business, travel, and “collecting.” He worked at the Equitable Life Insurance Company and was an owner of Bisbee-Baldwin Corporation and a participant in many other ventures. In recent years, Charles put his whole heart into enjoying his great-grandchildren and watching them grow. His friends and family will always remember his generous spirit and provocative and playful conversation style (“you can’t prove that” was a favorite expression).
He is survived by his sister, Anadele Krebs (Dick); daughters, Alexandra “Sandra” Hedrick (Chuck) and Ann Smith (Clay); grandchildren, Dan Hedrick (Faye), Adam Vining, Tim Hedrick (Jessie), Lisa Altman (Matthew) and Blake Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Milly, Kali, Ellen, Cameron, and Hunter.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville 32207 (Rev. Sandra Hedrick officiating). A private interment will precede the service. If desired, memorial gifts may be sent to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 8701 Argyle Forest Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32244, where Charles’ daughter Sandra serves as pastor. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hardagegiddensoaklawnchapel.com.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
