Frederick “Fred” Philip Bacon of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 23, 2024, in his 90th year. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Sharon (Byrd), loving father to Freddie, dear father-in-law to Heather, and treasured grandad to Owen and Heidi.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles and Lucy Olive Bacon, his two brothers, Arthur (Doris) and John (Nellie and Lillian), and his sister, Hazel (Philip Wheeler).
Fred was born in Norfolk, England, where he spent his first 23 years working on the family farm and serving two years in the British army after being drafted. On November 11, 1957, he immigrated to the United States. Two years later, he devoted his life to spreading the gospel of Jesus. He labored in New York, New England, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Missouri.
On August 23, 1975, he married Sharon Byrd. He spent most of his early working years as a machinist. Later, he worked in tool sales until his retirement in 2002. Never one to be idle, he took up hydroponic farming and founded Bacon’s Select Produce (“Bacon Farms”), serving the Jacksonville community by selling lettuce at RAM (Riverside Arts Market) and to local farm-to-table restaurants.
His last two years were spent quietly and contentedly at River City Rehab. He will be dearly missed by his immediate family, many nephews and nieces in both the U.S. and the U.K., and his innumerable friends.
