Freda Mae (Young) Mitchell passed away at the age of 94 on May 29, in Jacksonville, FL due to complications of lung cancer. Born in 1928, she was raised in St. Mary’s, PA. One of nine children, including two sisters and six brothers, she was the last surviving sibling of George and Mary Young.
Freda graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High school, then completed her RN Nursing degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing located in Dayton Ohio in 1949.
During her nursing training she met the love of her life Joseph Mitchell, a career barber, and shared 63 years of marriage until his death in 2016. Spending most of their lives in Vandalia, Ohio, they moved to Jacksonville, FL in 2014.
Freda is survived by her daughter Connie Kostoff (Jim) who reside in Indian Rocks Beach FL: son Brent Mitchell (Allison); grandchildren Ashley and Christopher from Jacksonville, FL: and was predeceased by granddaughter Megan Mitchell.
Services to be held at 5pm Monday 6/5/23 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral home 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, Fl 32223. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Beverly, OH.
