Frank was born on August 21, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee to William Hardy Mayo and Pauline Massengale Mayo; he was the 2nd oldest of 8 children. His siblings who preceded him in death are William “Sonny” Robert Mayo (03/15/2015), Ronnie Mayo (12/2018), Jim Mayo (09/12/2022), Sharon (Thomas) Mayo (01/23/2023).
Frank had an utter zest for life; he had an affinity for a great cologne, a nice Jack and Coke after a long day, and Vanilla Ice Cream with chocolate and walnuts (which he loved to share with his grandkids). He was always on the go, and you could usually only catch him sitting down for a good meal with his family or a poker game with friends.
During his early years he enjoyed playing tennis, racquetball, judo and golf, winning championships in both judo and golf. Later in life, golf was still his game, but he also enjoyed hunting, dancing, playing card games, and genuinely anything that kept him on the move.
Frank proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and beyond from 1951 – 1959.
He married the love of his life, Bee Elizabeth Evans on August 20, 1955; he then adopted and became a wonderful father to her two daughters, Dixie Lynn Mayo (King) of Tallahassee, FL and Denise Mayo-McCormick of Jacksonville, Florida. 15 Years later he became a loving Grandfather to Craig Matthews (Dixie) in 1970, Elizabeth Ann Matthews (Dixie) in 1976, Kristen Elizabeth Lowe (Denise) in 1981 and Dustin Edwin Lowe (Denise) in 1983, followed by two Great Grandchildren, Conner James Robbins (Kristen) in 2001 and Colton Michael Lowe (Dustin) in 2018.
Frank and his wife Elizabeth loved to travel, they took many cruises together, and even traveled to China to take in the beautiful sights at the Great Wall of China.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Frank’s life-long career until retirement was working in car sales, becoming a Sales Manager and a General Manager. He genuinely loved to work and excelled at everything he did.
Both Frank and his wife became Metaphysical Ministers, presiding over multiple weddings, including some of their grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his beautiful wife Bee Elizabeth Mayo on September 1, 2017, and his daughter Dixie Lynn Mayo (King) on September 9, 2022.
He is survived by his daughter Denise Mayo-McCormick (husband Phillip McCormick) of Jacksonville, Florida. Siblings, Barbara Mayo Koeller (husband Don Koeller) of Illinois, Jenny Mayo Wagner of Texas, and Joe Mayo (wife Joan Mayo) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Grandchildren, Craig Matthews (wife Jamie Matthews) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Ann Matthews of Tallahassee, Florida, Kristen Elizabeth Lowe (Robbins) (husband James Robbins) of Newton, Alabama, and Dustin Edwin Lowe (wife Krystal Lowe) of Callahan, Florida. Two Great-grandchildren, Conner James Robbins (wife Connie Robbins, parents Kristen and James), currently serving in the U.S. Navy and Colton Michael Lowe (parents Dustin and Krystal) who just started Kindergarten.
The visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 1PM to 2PM at Hardage – Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
